Green Smoothies
A green smoothie is a smoothie which is made mainly with green vegetables and often contains a few fruits as well, as the tang of the fruit hides the bitter taste of some of the vegetable ingredients. Once you have all of the ingredients blended together you have all of the raw food broken down into a predigestable state which the body can easily extract all of the nutrients from.
You should look to make you green smoothie from only a few ingredients, don’t go looking to add as many ingredients as possible. If you keep the number of ingredients low then the body has less to focus on and can absorb the goodness from those ingredients easier.
A good green smoothie should contain 1 green vegetable and 1-2 fruits to hide the taste of the green vegetable as some of them can be very bitter.
Some very simple recipes for green smoothie follow
Strawberry Banana and Spinach Smoothie
2 bananas
1 cup strawberries
1 cup spinach
1 cup water
Mango and Parsley Smoothie
2 mangos (peeled and chopped)
1 bunch parsley (stems removes)
1 1/2 cups water
Green tea smoothie recipe
2 cups of green tea, made with four tea bags so it's nice and strong
1 sliced frozen banana
4 ounces of yogurt, flavour of your choice
1/2 a cup of blueberries or strawberries
1 tablespoon of soy vanilla powder
a dash of cinnamon to taste
The green challenge as it is known is to drink one green smoothie per day for 30 days. If you can complete this challenge then you are well on your way to changing your eating habits so that you automatically eat healthier without thinking about it.
It’s worth trying to get your kids to drink green smoothie, although you may have some trouble convincing them about the color.
